Smoking Cessation Trust offers free services to help Louisiana smokers quit – for good
In Late 2011, the final judgment in a 14-year-old class action lawsuit (Scott v. American Tobacco Company) ordered certain tobacco companies to fund a 10-year statewide smoking cessation program. The new program will benefit more than 200,000 Louisiana smokers – members of the plaintiff class referred to as the Scott Class, which is defined in the judgment as all Louisiana residents who developed a smoking habit before September 1, 1988. In 2012, the court-established and court-supervised Smoking Cessation Trust (SCT) began work to set up the cessation program as planned, using funds provided by those tobacco companies. FestiGals 2014 Tops the Charts
NEW ORLEANS, LA (June 30, 2014) – FestiGals recently wrapped up its 4th annual women’s celebration in New Orleans with resounding success. From Thursday June 19th through Sunday June 22nd nearly 1,500 women from across the country united in the Crescent City to take part in one of the most unique festivals of its kind. The jampacked four day extended weekend attracted a diverse cross-section of women for a variety of enrichment and empowerment seminars framed within the context of a carefree celebration. Paying It Forward Mikey Godwin and the Port of New Orleans crew present a donation to Tammy Swindle of Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans Donations Now Part of Safety Program As part of the safety crew recognition program, the Craft Voice In Safety (CVIS) team has implemented an exciting new twist on recognition. Beginning in March, the crew selected as Safety Crew of the Month will still receive gift cards as they always have but now they will have the option of making a $1,000 donation to the crews local charity of choice. The March crew of the month, the Port of New Orleans crew, chose to donate to breast cancer awareness through the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans (CAGNO).
